Munch Six - (Week 6) Lateral thinking

http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/system/product_images/images/001/076/921/original_think-outside-the-box-wall-art-print.jpg
So about two weeks ago, we got a lesson about lateral thinking.

What is lateral thinking?

http://www.brillianceactivator.com/services/training/lateral-thinking/

Lateral thinking is solving problems through an indirect and creative approach, using reasoning that is not immediately obvious and involving ideas that may not be obtainable by using only traditional step-by-step logic." - Wikipedia

So, we were given a few questions and the lecturer encourage us to use a creative way to solve this problem. One thing stressed from this lesson is to think outside the box.

Again, I am pairing with Jecelyn (view her blog here). We answered many questions. Some questions made our brains turned up side down, trying to find a unique way to solve the problem. But overall, I think we had a good time trying to figure thinks out.

There were some questions we needed to solve with drawing. To make things easier, we decided to use the iPad. Here are some of the screen captures.

There are lots of questions and problems you can only solve by thinking outside the box. For example is the problem where you need to connect 9 dots shaping the box with only four straight lines. You can see our answer above. The picture under this is the common answer.

Here are some quotes about thinking outside the box.

Munch Five - (Week 5) Break the Rules! Part 2

http://makealivingwritingromance.com/

This is another post talking about artists and designers who had broken the rules by making arts which are out of the ordinary.

For the first example, let's take a look at these pictures.

As some of you may have guessed, we're going to talk about Picasso!

Picasso showed his talent in drawing since his early years with his realistic drawings but in the first decades of the twentieth century, his drawing style suddenly changed. He started to experiment with colors, theories and technics and he actually came up with something unexpectedly good!

Another example, on Gordon Matta-Clark and his piece "Office Baroque" , Rubin explains how he revolutionized the art world by selectively cutting holes in the floor and ceiling of an abandoned building until "the building itself constituted the work of art," and she labels Tony Oursler's video work (above) of dismembered body parts onto unlikely materials "Eerie." These pictures are the works of Līga Purmale and Miervaldis Polis. Līga Purmale (born 4 October 1948, DundagaLatvian SSR) is a Latvian painter. At a young age she moved to Riga from the Latvian countryside to study painting, first at the Jānis Rozentāls Art High School and then at the Latvian Academy of Art. In the 1970s she and Miervaldis Polis, who was her husband at the time, started a new trend of photorealism in Latvian painting. (en.wikipedia.com)

Munch Four - (Week 4) Brainstorming! Part 2

So, last week Creative Thinking class, we did another brainstorming but with different groups.

But again, we, because we're slow, chose a what I thought a difficult topic - which turned out to be not so much. It's about blue.

This time, I am partnering with Jecelyn (view her blog here) and Erika (view her blog here).

At first, we don't know what to write. AT ALL. But suddenly, it came to our minds that blue, is not just the colour blue.

What is blue?

There is actually lots of blue. First of all, even the colour blue has tons of different shades. For light blue, there are turquoise and celeste, for example. Dark blue, there are cobalt blue and denim. There is also the blues music, alternative blues, country blues, rock blues, and many more.

Who is blue?

There are also lots of people, characters to be precise who is blue such as Sullivan from Monster inc., and there is Doraemon, and there is also the Smurfs.

We had tons of fun doing this project. We did not forget to take selfies afterwards ;)

For those who dislike doing mindmap using pens and paper, don't fret!

If you have an iPad, you can use this free app called iMindMap HD!

This app lets you make mind map so easily, with lots of features! Here is an example of my work.

I gotta say this app makes things so much easier. You can add photos and all with one click, no need to draw using pens.

BUT! I gotta say using this app makes the mind map lacking of originality. Doing the hard copy is more fun and you can add this and that anyway you want it.

Well, for something easy to read and for personal use only, I prefer using this app. But for something to be presented in front of lots of people, I'd prefer doing it the hard way, using paper and pens.

Munch Three - (Week 3) Break the Rules! Part 1

Recently while browsing through my pinterest account, I stumbled upon this picture.

http://curious-places.blogspot.sg/2012/03/upside-down-house-szymbark-poland.html

At first, I thought "wow the person editing this photo surely knows what he does!". But when I started reading the description written underneath, my mind was blown away.

Guess what, this is an actual house!

The upside down house was created by the timber construction company Danmar in Szymbark, North Poland. The house also features furnitures hanging on the ceiling. Inside, there is also an exhibition of Polish paintings inside illustrating the precarious position the world is in and how people have to do more to protect it.

This house is now attracting lots of tourists each day even though they have to wait for more than 6 hours to enter this two story crooked and upside down house. But some visitors may leave the place mildly seasick and dizzy as it was made on an incline which make you have a hard time balancing yourself.

http://curious-places.blogspot.sg/2012/03/upside-down-house-szymbark-poland.html

The designer, Daniel Czapiewski, said that this house was built as a reminder of "wrong doings against humanity" and the backwardness of the world.

This is another weird, unique house.

This house is called Eliphante Art House. It is located in Cornville, AZ, USA. The artists, Michael Kahn and his wife, Leda Livant, built it from found materials piece by piece.

The third one is called Errante's Guest House, located in Chile.

The photo above is the photo of a mushroom house. The property is a series of five interconnected pods situated on a hill at the tree line, again just like the homes inthe original Smurfs series.

There are two pods that are sleeping areas, a centre pod with a kitchen and sitting room, a fourth with a living and dining area with a fireplace and a fifth that is a deck.
